Usually two at a time is fine, fitted on the same axle. On all-wheel-drive vehicles, the manufacturer often specifies replacing all four together to avoid drivetrain damage. We'll tell you what your specific vehicle needs.
The legal minimum tread depth in Australia is 1.5mm, but tyres start losing wet grip well before that. Modern tyres have wear indicators in the tread grooves. If those are level with the surrounding tread, the tyre is done.
